So July was pretty crazy. Thanks to everyone who came out for the shows including the Summerpunks / Stuck In Summertime / Lethal Lottery weekender and to all the bands involved in what was another busy month. We had a hand in three new releases; the new “Short-Brain” 7″ EP from The Fur Coats, the self-titled CDEP from Shitgripper and the first digital single from Jaroen. Thanks to everybody who’s checked them out thus far and ordered records across the month, the significance of your support cannot be overstated.
Huge thanks also to those who donated to the Alyth Flood Fund via digital downloads this month, your money will go towards vital supplies for the people of Alyth. We also managed to source a dehumidifier for our buddy Banjo Patch. We will be involved in a benefit show that will be taking place in Alyth in October. We’ll keep ye informed of details as things develop.
Our roaster-in-chief Derrick was the guest on Episode 10 of The Curator Podcast which was published yesterday. Derrick met with podcaster Mark Fraser on the afternoon of Stuck In Summertime to shoot the breeze about DIY, punk rock, history and the evolution/development of MTAT. Mark’s podcast is great as has featured interviews with the likes of Derek Archambault from Defeater, Jonah Matranga, Steven Hill of Struggletown Records and more. It’s also really encouraging to hear a podcast championing the cause of DIY punk in Scotland. Recommended listening here!
We have two shows coming up in August. Both are absolute bangers and should be emotionally-charged occasions all round. The first one sees us at The Twa Tams in Perth on Friday 14th August for the return of hometown punk legends PMX who play their first show of the decade, more than ten years since the launch of the seminal “Rise and Shine” album. The band have been recording their new “Dark Days” EP and we are absolutely stoked to be involved its release, full details of which are coming soon.
They’ll be joined at what is likely to be the rowdiest Perth rammy for quite some time by our own posi-core punks Get It Together and Tragical History Tour. It’s a free show too so get down to early to make sure ye can get down the front. No prizes for the first person to stage dive in the Tams, but that’s between you and your conscience!
The following evening we host SONGS FOR MUM;
This show is the SONGS FOR MUM; A COMPILATION vs CANCER CD Launch and benefit show to help raise money and awareness from Maggie’s Centres and the invaluable support that they provide. We’d encourage you have a read of the above linked post for full details. All money from the show and both physical and digital sales of the compilation will be donated to our own Barry “The” Kydd’s JustGiving fund to be donated to Maggie’s. Any and all support with this show would be very much appreciated as it’s a cause that is very close to our hearts, as I’m sure it is for a great many of us.
This show will also be the last Scottish show for our friends Terrafraid as they begin their mammoth three month European tour that will see them play shows across the entirety of the continent. Perhaps fittingly, their tour with Blackburn’s Edgarville will come to an end at BOOK YER ANE FEST IX during the last weekend in November.
As regards BYAF, we’ve announced a whole heap of bands with loads more to come. Keep your eyes on the event page and our Twitter for details as they come in. There are still a slack handful of Earlybird Weekend Tickets left for £20 too, but get in quick before they disappear as this your absolute cheapest way to ensure that you’ll be to see over 50 acts across the weekend.
We’re also very pleased to confirm the final line-up for DUNDEEMOFEST on Friday 11th September. We’ll be welcoming Tennessee emo/punks Free Throw to Dundee at what will be their first ever Scottish show and the only Scottish show of their upcoming EU Tour. They’ll be joined by some of Ecossemo’s finest in the shape of Carson Wells, Min Diesel, Please Believe! and Lachance along with touring support from England’s Holy Pinto.
We shall also be staging a hostile MAKE THAT A TAKEOVER of Warped at Kage Nightclub afterwards and will be manning the wheels of steel playing the finest in punk/hxc/emo until the early hours. We have some e-tickets available and physical tickets are also available at Groucho’s, everyone’s favourite Dundee record store.
Finally (for now!), we are hosting a SUMMER VINYL SALE!!!
Ye can grab some proper bargains on our Bandcamp page with THREE LPs for £20 and TWO 7″s for A FIVER. We’ll throw in COOL FREE SHIT with every order and we’ve got a whole heap of CDs going super cheap too. Buying records makes us happy, so spread the happiness by buying some kick-ass punk rock records for yourself. It brings joy to our hearts!
Thanks, as always, for the support. August should be another rare old month. Keep your eyes peeled for further developments!
